This week, we received an interesting reply from a criminal defense attorney.

He’s looking to sell a website he's owned for more than 20 years.

Over the years, he's built up content and attorney profiles in the criminal defense space.

So we figure other attorneys are in this boat too.

Many attorneys spend decades building assets they don't always think of as assets.

A website, blog, email list, referral network, directory, YouTube channel, podcast.

Most of it gets built slowly.

Just one article, client, or referral at a time.

Then one day, years later, those things may be worth far more than expected.

Or they may be sitting largely unused because everyone is busy practicing law.

The reality is that many attorneys are so focused on serving clients that they never have time to fully leverage what they've already built.

Which raises an interesting question:

If you stepped away tomorrow, what would happen to the assets you've spent years creating?

Would they continue generating value?

Would someone else want them?

Would they simply disappear?

Most attorneys spend plenty of time planning for cases.

Far fewer spend time thinking about the long-term value of the things they're building around the practice itself.

Something worth considering.

Until next time,
